My dad (the advisor) and I worked on the winder today. We started off by setting up a test rig that was 15 feet of rope hanging from a beam. We ran the winder on it and it worked pretty well. It had trouble coming down and didn't have enough power so we spent the next few hours trying to get it to work. We tried increasing the voltage and a few other things but it still didn't work.

I think most of the ideas came from me so I don't think it was an infringement upon our independence. I just needed a few extra hands and somebody to bounce ideas off. I don't work very well alone.
